There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that features numerous amenities aside from the gambling hall, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
